Welcome to our thriving communities of the future.
Where people possess a spark that could power a whole city - and they do.

Empowered with self-belief, sponsorship and tools, these civic innovators shape the solutions to their social, economic and environmental needs. Together, they are collaborative powerhouses that incubate ideas and generate grassroot innovations for their towns and cities.

See those people driving your granny to her doctors' appointments? Or that Air BnB-type tool for women struggling with domestic violence? Perhaps you've noticed that local pub sharing renewable energy with its neighbours. Yep. They were all conceived and created by people just like you.

These people-led initiatives draw on the passion, knowledge and skills within our communities. Connections are their currency and the desire to contribute is their fuel. And they light the way for others, transmitting their can-do inspiration to an ever-widening constellation of people and businesses wanting to make a difference across Australia. Together, they have risen to meet the challenges of our times and secured the future they want for themselves, their families and their communities.

At the Centre for Civic Innovation, we believe this future is within our grasp, and we're working to make it a reality. We want you to be a part of it.

Why a Centre for Civic Innovation?

The Centre for Civic Innovation is driven by the fundamental belief that we need to work together to adapt to change and address our communities’ challenges. Shared responsibility and active citizenship are our call to action.

For too long the onus has been on governments to address the big issues we face. But these issues often go well beyond what governments are designed to enable. Meanwhile, people want to contribute to their communities, but they are often frustrated with the responses to their calls for better services or support.

The Centre for Civic Innovation offers communities and government the opportunity to work together in a fresh way to address the challenges to their local areas.
